Building of The Office of His Majesty's Principal Private Secretary

The Office of His Majestyís Principal Private Secretary is a unit of the Royal Thai Government bureaucracy which is responsible for His Majestyís secretarial affairs. It was officially established during the reign of King Chulalongkorn (1868-1910) and was originally called Office Private Secretary Luang or The Royal Secretariat Department.

As His Majestyís Office has been in existence for a long time, and was officially transformed into a unit of the Royal Thai Government bureaucracy in the reign of King Chulalongkorn, over the past hundred years or so, several changes had thus taken place according to the royal policy of each monarch as well as the administrative policy of successive governments. Hence, various names found in the royal correspondence, royal commands, annual legal compendiums, and royal gazettes, such as the Royal Scribes Department, the Audit Office, the Royal Office, the Department of the Royal Secretariat, the Department of the Royal Private Secretary, the Department of His Majestyís Private Secretary, Office of His Majestyís Principal Private Secretary, and the Ministry of Privy Seal, were all concerned with and were the origin of the present day Office of His Majestyís Principal Private Secretary.

At present, the Office of His Majestyís Principal Private Secretary is responsible for documents received from government offices, non-government offices, and the general public for submission to His Majesty the King for royal authorisation and decision depending on each case. The Office also conveys royal wishes and commands to parties concerned. It is evident that the Office of His Majestyís Principal Private Secretary has the role of coordinator between His Majesty the King and the Government, the various offices of the public and private sectors, as well as the general public concerning both the affairs of State and His Majestyís private affairs.
